There’s something incredibly empowering about hitching up your camper, climbing into your truck, and heading out on the open road completely on your own. The very first time I did it, I felt a mix of excitement, nervousness, freedom, and pride all at once. It was just me, my truck, my little camper, and my sweet rescue kitty, Pebbles. And honestly? It became one of the most peaceful and rewarding experiences of my life.

Pebbles has already been through so much in her tiny little life. After rescuing her from that cold hospital parkade where she was hiding among broken concrete pebbles, I promised her she would always feel safe, loved, and protected. So when I decided to start taking solo camping trips, there was no question — Pebbles was coming with me.
Of course, traveling with a kitten requires a little planning. I wanted her to feel secure while we drove, so I found the perfect cat kennel with a sturdy carry handle that was just the right size for traveling. It was cozy enough to help her feel safe, but roomy enough for her to comfortably stretch out and relax during the drive. I lined it with a soft blanket that smelled like home, tucked in one of her favorite toys, and placed the kennel safely beside me in the truck.

At first, Pebbles meowed a little as we pulled away from the city. I think she was unsure of all the movement and new sounds. But before long, she curled up into her blanket and quietly watched the world go by through the mesh side of her carrier. Now and then, I would glance over at her sleeping peacefully, and my heart would melt.
There’s something so healing about driving through the countryside with your favorite music playing softly while your little companion rides beside you. The stress of everyday life slowly disappears with every mile. No rushing. No pressure. Just freedom.
When I finally arrived at the campsite and parked my camper, I felt such a deep sense of accomplishment. I had done it all by myself. I backed the camper in, got everything set up, and created our little cozy outdoor home for the weekend. The evening air was calm, the trees were gently swaying, and Pebbles curiously peeked out from her kennel as if to say, “We really did this?”
Before long, she was safely exploring inside the camper, climbing onto the bed, peeking out the windows, and finding sunny little spots to nap. I quickly realized that pets don’t need luxury vacations. They simply want to be near the people who love them.
That camping trip reminded me that life doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. Sometimes happiness looks like a quiet campsite, morning coffee outside your camper, a warm blanket, and a tiny rescued kitten purring beside you.
Traveling solo with my camper gave me confidence I didn’t know I had. Bringing Pebbles along made the journey feel complete. Together, we created memories filled with comfort, healing, adventure, and peace.
Now every time I pack up the truck, Pebbles seems to know exactly what’s happening. She watches me load the camper with curious little eyes, and when I bring out her travel kennel, she calmly climbs inside as if she knows another cozy adventure is about to begin.
And honestly, those simple little road trips with Pebbles may just be some of my favorite moments of all. ✨
