There’s something magical about early mornings before the world fully wakes up. The air feels softer, the birds sing a little louder, and for a few quiet moments, life slows down enough to breathe.

Most weekend mornings, you’ll find me sitting in my backyard gazebo with a warm cup of coffee in my hands, wrapped in my pajamas while the sunrise paints the sky in soft gold and blush colors.

This little space has become one of my favorite places in the world ~ a peaceful retreat I lovingly call Hilda’s Place.

My gazebo is named after my beautiful mom, Hilda. 💛

My mom taught me that comfort isn’t found in expensive things. It’s found in kindness, peaceful spaces, warm meals, family, pets curled up nearby, and quiet moments that fill your heart. She had a calming presence that made people feel safe and loved, and I wanted this special space to carry a little piece of her spirit every day. It’s filled with so many of her ornaments that remind me of her! I love it here!

Every flower, lantern, cozy blanket, and soft cushion in Hilda’s Place reminds me to slow down and appreciate life’s simple gifts, just as my mom did. She always enjoyed the simple things in life, which was mostly spending time with family and enjoying her own backyard.

Some mornings are perfectly quiet except for the sound of coffee pouring into my favorite mug. Other mornings include little paws padding across the deck as Brandy and Molly come outside to join me. Brandy usually curls up nearby while Molly investigates every flower pot and corner of the gazebo like she’s inspecting her kingdom. 🐶🐱

Those moments may seem ordinary, but honestly, they’ve become some of the most meaningful parts of my day.

In a world that constantly pushes us to rush, buy more, do more, and worry more, I’ve learned how important it is to intentionally create calm spaces where we can simply be. That’s one of the reasons I created Kindred Comforts Co.

I wanted to build a cozy corner online where pets and people could find inspiration to create homes and lives that feel peaceful, comforting, welcoming, and full of love.

You don’t need a perfect backyard, a giant home, or expensive décor to create calm. Sometimes all it takes is:

As I sit in the gazebo each morning reading a book, listening to birds, or simply watching the sunrise peek through the trees, I often think about how much my mom would have loved this little retreat. I can almost imagine her sitting beside me, smiling softly with coffee in hand.

And maybe that’s why this space feels so comforting.

It isn’t just a gazebo.
